Northumbrian Water Game Creation and Development Competition:

An employee intranet game about Delighting customers’ 

Are you a games designer with a flair for employee learning and engagement? Do you think you could create a game that inspires and rewards employees to delight customers?

We are looking for you to create an original game that captures our passion for delighting customers and that actively engages, encourages and rewards our employee community of over 3000 to go the extra mile.

The competition is in two parts, with prizes awarded at the concept stage, including £1000 for first place, £500 for runner up and £500 for the people’s choice,  and an exclusive competition to win a full development/ 12 month support contract worth up to £38,000 for those submitting ideas!

The competition is now closed to entrants but you can still get involved.  We are very keen to meet those who can assist with corporate game development and gamification.  Please register to attend our awards event and showcase on the 4th February.  Click below to find out more:

Our goals


Our goals


The main goal of the competition is to produce a game that can raise awareness of the number of awesome staff we have who are striving to improve customer service and experience.

We recognise like many businesses it’s often difficult to thank everybody that has been involved in solving a customer's issues, or developing clever solutions.

We are seeking a clever game that enables all those involved in improving customer experience with us to gain the recognition they deserve, and equally as important; highlight and celebrate those that continuously contribute to delighting customers. To achieve this, the game must be ‘sticky’, socially interactive and accessible for all staff both in the field and at the office.

The final product will be hosted on the Northumbrian Water's employee intranet (Cascade) and is anticipated to offer a mobile expression to provide an interactive way for people to identify successes in real time, highlight those involved and the scale of effort involved across the business.

Further, the game should inspire curiosity about the work we do to improve customer care, and encourage staff to get involved in our various initiatives, have and share ideas for improvements and to take personal responsibility and pride in what we can achieve together.

We are passionate about the North East and are working with all the regional networks to ensure best chance of sourcing a North East solution. Apart from contributing to a great project and the chance to win prizes for your ideas and potentially a development contract, taking part offers great potential for building the profile and awareness of your business or enterprise

We are offering prizes awarded at the concept stage, including £1000 for first place, £500 for runner up and £500 for the people’s choice.

A game of two halves...

Beyond this, if you are a north east based games design house, you have the opportunity to bid for full development and 12 month support contract worth up to £38,000!

Only those who enter concepts will be able to participate in the contract competition.

The final development may be a synthesis of ideas and concepts submitted. By placing your game concept to the competition, you will be agreeing that it can be used by Northumbrian Water and for commercial purposes by all, any participants in submitting a tender for execution (part two).

We also recognise that teams may restructure and reform for tendering in part 2 of the competition.
